"What Do you wish more people knew about photography?"

Lighting! Lighting! Lighting! Lighting plays such an important role in how your images will turn out.

In the image above, I used artificial lighting in a garage with no windows. Images taken at 6am during sunrise will be significantly different than images captured at 1pm with full sun out. The key is to work with a photographer that understands the differences of lighting and its changing challenges throughout the day.

For example, a mid-day photography session will require strong lighting such as a strobe light to combat shadows on the subject's face (unless you get lucky with shade). Sessions in the evening typically don't need additional lighting aside from the sun - but it is a nice touch if done right! Sessions during blue hour are likely to need lighting assistance depending on the gear used by the photographer.

I like to ask my client's for any inspiration photos they may have before scheduling a session with me so that I can suggest the best time of day for their session. I've lost count how many times a client has inquired about a session at a given time only for them to change their time to achieve the look they're wanting for their photos.

Editing can only do so much in the incorrect lighting.
